The school celebrated Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav from 4th to 11th December with a series of engaging activities designed to help students appreciate the linguistic and cultural richness of India. The week-long celebrations honoured the birth anniversary of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati, marking the observance of ‘Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav 2025’. This Utsav was a tribute to the timeless contributions of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati and aimed to promote respect for and understanding of India’s linguistic richness and promote the spirit of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” by encouraging the learning of an additional Bharatiya Bhasha. The week-long celebration aimed to nurture pride in Indian languages while encouraging children to understand the unity that binds our nation.
The celebration began on 4th December with the Language Tree Display and Language Heritage Wall, where students of Grades 1 and 2 wrote and recited greetings in multiple Indian languages. This activity strengthened cultural sensitivity and communication skills among young learners.
On 5th December, children participated in Poetry Across Languages and Music Through Languages, presenting rhymes in regional languages such as Bengali, Tamil, and Garhwali. They translated the rhymes, demonstrating comprehension and respect for linguistic diversity.
The 8th December event, Festival of Many Tongues and Voice of Language Podcast, allowed students to showcase festivals from different regions, their greetings, music, and traditional attire, highlighting how language is deeply connected with culture .
On 9th December, the theme Unity in Proverbs and Bhasha Mitra Collaboration helped students explore similar proverbs across languages, followed by peer learning where students taught each other greetings and songs, fostering friendship and appreciation for one another’s linguistic background .
A meaningful Bhasha Bandhu Letter and Story Exchange on 10th December enabled Class V to connect with a partner school from another state, exchanging cultural insights and learning about linguistic traditions different from their own .
On 11th December, students participated in Language Exploration Clubs, playing traditional games from various states, which helped them joyfully understand the diversity of Indian cultural practices.
The celebrations culminated in the Bhasha Kala Mahotsava, where students showcased multilingual dance and song performances, beautifully reflecting the CBSE theme “Many Languages, One Emotion”.
Conclusion
The Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav provided students with a meaningful platform to explore India’s linguistic richness. Through poems, songs, games, proverbs, cultural exchanges, and interactive activities, children developed respect for different languages, learned to appreciate shared values across cultures, and understood the unifying spirit of India. The week truly strengthened the idea that while our languages may be many, our emotion is one.
