WORKSHOP REPORT -TRAINING OF TRAINERS (2 – DAYS CERTIFICATION COURSE)

Objective of the Workshop: The ToT program aimed to equip CBSE Resource Persons with the necessary skills, knowledge, and tools to effectively train teachers across the country. By empowering these resource persons, the Board seeks to strengthen the capacity of teachers to implement innovative teaching methodologies, foster critical thinking, and promote holistic student development.
Overview of the Workshop: The two-day workshop held on the 16 November 2024 and 17 November 2024 focused on Qualities of a trainer, Plan, Prepare and Present an Interactive Lecture, Training methods like Coaching, Discussion Leading & Group Exercises, NEP 2020 (Facilities and Implementation) and E-content Development Cycle.
Overview of the Workshop
Day 1
The first day of the workshop focused on understanding the qualities of an effective trainer, methods for structuring interactive sessions, and tools to design impactful learning events.
Session 1: Qualities of a Trainer
The session commenced with a lively discussion on the attributes of an exemplary educator. Key traits, such as subject expertise, empathy, interpersonal skills, and the ability to inspire students, were identified as vital. Participants shared perspectives on the need for teachers to foster lifelong learning and empower students to achieve their potential.
Session 2: Steps in Preparing an Interactive Session
Capt. Y.P. Sharma emphasized the importance of thorough preparation for lectures. He outlined a structured process for trainers:
Defining objectives.
Understanding learners’ entry behavior.
Planning content and its sequence.
Maximizing recall through visual aids.
Incorporating feedback and reviews.
Trainers were introduced to the INTRO-COVER-SLATE framework for structuring sessions:
INTRO (3-5 mins): Generate interest, establish the need, set objectives.
COVER (8-12 mins): Deliver content with visuals, maintain order, and reinforce concepts.
SLATE (5-7 mins): Summarize, link concepts, test understanding, and suggest further learning.
Session 3: Designing a Learning Event and Spray Diagram
This session highlighted the significance of meticulous planning. Trainers were guided to create spray diagrams, visual tools to organize ideas systematically. Capt. Sharma emphasized that trainers should prepare material extensively to cater to diverse learner needs. Participants engaged in brainstorming exercises to create and present their spray diagrams.
Day 2
The second day focused on advanced training methods, an overview of NEP 2020, and e-content development.
Session 4: Training Methods
Trainers were introduced to techniques for balancing foundational knowledge (LOTS) and critical thinking skills (HOTS). Emphasis was placed on adopting a supportive, discovery-based approach to build learners' confidence and foster meaningful learning experiences.
Session 5: Discussion on NEP 2020
Dr. Saurabh Malhotra provided a detailed overview of NEP 2020. Key highlights included:
Introduction of the 5+3+3+4 curriculum structure.
Emphasis on critical thinking, soft skills, and holistic learning.
Integration of technology and vocational education.
Curriculum reform to focus on essential content and discussion-based learning.
Session 6: Development of E-Content
The session outlined the process of creating engaging digital learning materials:
Planning content and identifying learner needs.
Incorporating multimedia elements like videos, animations, and simulations.
Testing for compatibility across platforms.
Trainers were encouraged to utilize CBSE's advanced studios for content creation, with a focus on enhancing accessibility and engagement.
Session 7: Syndicate Presentation and Valedictory
Participants were grouped into syndicates to deliver presentations simulating training sessions. The activity emphasized adhering to the structured process over content delivery. The workshop concluded with the Director, CBSE, inspiring participants to contribute to India's vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
