Topic: Taking Gandhi to school

Objective of the Workshop:
The primary objective of the meeting was to promote the values and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi among the school students through innovative initiatives like Gandhi Peace Clubs, Toy Banks, and value-based educational programs. The focus was emphasized upon fostering non-violence, integrity, empathy, and community service among the young generation.

Overview of the Workshop:
The meeting was held on 22nd April 2025, Tuesday at Gandhi Darshan, Rajghat. Organized by the Ministry of Culture and Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, it aimed to introduce the educators and the school representatives to new initiatives under the "Taking Gandhi to Schools" program. The session emphasized upon the importance of integrating Gandhian values into school curricula and activities, ensuring students learn about and practice principles of truth, non-violence, and ethical conduct.

Session 1: Formation of Gandhi Peace Clubs

The first session focused on the concept of forming Gandhi Peace Clubs within the schools. These clubs are intended to serve as platforms where students can explore Gandhian principles through workshops, discussions, and service-based campaigns.

Session 2: Toy Bank Initiative

The second session introduced the idea of creating a Toy Bank. The initiative involved collecting the used toys from students and redistributing them to underprivileged children. It aimed to instil values of empathy, sharing, and community participation among students while supporting social responsibility projects.

Session 3: Promoting Integrity and Ethical Conduct

The third session discussed the importance of fostering values like honesty, integrity, and ethical behaviour among students. Proposed activities included conducting integrity workshops, organizing honour pledge ceremonies, and establishing peer mentorship programs to create a culture of moral responsibility in schools.

Session 4: Educational Excursion to Rajghat

The final session emphasized on the educational value of excursions to Rajghat. Such visits would deepen students’ understanding of Mahatma Gandhi’s life, teachings, and the historical significance of non-violence and self-reliance.

By combining theoretical learning with practical community service, the "Taking Gandhi to Schools" program seeks to nurture socially responsible, ethical, and empathetic future citizens.
