How to beat exam stress and come out

Regular Yourself
Some amount of stress is actually good for us, as it helps us build courage to handle tough situations. But when the stress is extreme or chronic, it leads to exhaustion and anxiety. So remain neither too tense, nor too carefree.

Do it your way
If you are a visual learner, then you might like to highlight, draw mind maps, watch videos. Auditory learners like to read aloud, teach others, brainstorm concepts, use role play. Kinaesthetic learners like to walk around, play with a ball etc. Try out mnemonics to make memorising easy and fun.

Call out the negativity
Sometimes we feel out of control and negative thoughts rush in. We can reduce this negativity simply by being aware of it and labelling it. Deep breathing. moving around helps and doing something to distract yourself- a short walk, making a snack, or dancing to your favourite song.

Visualise
If you feel panic, just visualise yourself as calm and confident. Make it as detailed as possible so that the brain can hold on to the vision, and then it will go all out to make sure that you stay on track.
Based on strategies to handle exam-related stress, as recommended by Dr Shelja Sen,

Child & Adolescent Psychologist, Family Therapist and Author.

Be plagful
Being playful, funny, whacky helps. Stress feeds on fear and it is defeated by laughter.

No distractions, no procrastination
Whether it is gadgets or social media, 'distance and delay' is an effective way to keep yourself on track. Switch off the wifi and get away from your smart phone. If you have been procrastinating studying Physics, then study it for 15 minutes, move to another subject, and return to Physics later.

Stay grounded
Take a deep breath and label 5 things in the room that you can see (flowers, desk), 4 things you can touch (go ahead and touch them), 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing that you can taste. Or try 3-5 minutes of guided meditation on apps such as Calm or Headspace.

Remember, the outcome is not in your hands, but the effort is. So give it your best shot, and relax. People who love you and care for you will continue to do so regardless of how you perform.
All the best for your exams!
