Objective of the Workshop

The primary objective was to provide participants with an understanding of the latest assessment structure and strategies to optimize student learning and development through continuous assessments.

Overview of the Workshop:

The two-day workshop held on the 20th and 21st of September focused on understanding the updated syllabus, assessment techniques, and innovative teaching strategies. It provided educators with a platform to discuss challenges in the Business Studies curriculum, methods to improve student engagement, and strategies to help students master complex topics.

DAY-1:

Session 1: Introduction and Quiz

The workshop began with an engaging self-introduction activity, where participants described themselves using business-related adjectives starting with the first letter of their names. This innovative technique, which can also be applied in classrooms, set a lively tone for the day. Following this, a six-round quiz focused on industry logos and taglines took place, in which Ms. Ruby Singh’s team secured the first position.

Session 2: Discussion on Changes in the Class XII Syllabus

A detailed discussion on the recent changes in the Class XII Business Studies syllabus ensued. The session addressed the challenges in teaching specific topics and the strategies required to overcome them. Participants received a handout summarizing these updates, which can be shared with students to improve their understanding of the new syllabus.

DAY-2:

Session 3: Case Studies and Role Play

On the second day, participants engaged in a role-play exercise designed to explain complex topics through case studies. Each team was assigned a different business concept, which they presented creatively. This activity sparked enthusiasm and active participation from all attendees. Handouts containing case studies were provided to enhance students’ practical understanding of these concepts.

Session 4: Review of Blueprint and Marking Scheme

The resource person reviewed the blueprint and marking scheme for the Business Studies exam, offering insights into how questions are structured. This session included a discussion on application-based questions from previous CBSE papers, with an emphasis on the critical keywords students should focus on when answering such questions.

Session 5: Concept Mapping and Case Studies

Teams were given the opportunity to design and present their own case studies on various topics, followed by a fruitful discussion. The resource person introduced the concept mapping technique to simplify the understanding of complex topics like financial markets, illustrating how it can be used to organize information and link ideas effectively.

Session 6: Bloom’s Taxonomy and Cognitive Skills

In the final session, Mr. Rajwardhan Purohit explained Bloom’s Taxonomy, dividing cognitive skills into six hierarchical levels, from basic recall of information to higher-order thinking. The session covered strategies for improving comprehension, analysis, and application, vital for students’ success in Business Studies.

Career Opportunities in Commerce

The workshop also touched upon emerging career opportunities in the commerce field, reflecting the evolving economic environment. Professions such as actuarial science, data analytics, stock brokerage, and portfolio management were discussed, offering attendees insights into the growing fields that commerce students can pursue.
